Recently I’m doing a lot of upgrades, mostly because vSphere 6.0 end of general support is on 12.03.2020. In this post I would like to describe some good practices. I will write about vSphere upgrade, but most of this things are universal also for other products. First lets describe what is the difference between update and upgrade.
After login to vSphere Client, you get below error:
Unhandled Exception (1) Unfortunately, we hit an error that we weren't expecting. The client may continue working, but at this point, we recommend refreshing your browser and submitting a bug report.
Lately I had weird issue while I wanted to connect to newly deployed ESXi via SSH using putty. ESXi object was installed using Vagrant. After typing login, I got error: “SSH Disconnected: No supported authentication methods available”. Of course SSH service was up and running and I was able to connect to ESXi via DCUI and vSphere Client.
Couple days ago vSphere 6.7 Update 1 was released by VMware. Below is table with all related release notes and download links.

Direct side-by-side comparisons between Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and VMware (vSphere on-prem solution) aren’t always possible. But some of them are close enough, so I created below table, so better understand terminology. It helped mi to transfer my understanding from VMware to AWS, when I prepared to AWS Certified Solutions Architect exam.
